What is your job and what does it involve?
My job, as a Husbandry Operator within the Ormsary Fresh Water Department, is to ensure that the welfare and cleanliness is to a high standard. I am also involved in feeding and fish movements.
What got you into salmon farming?
I previously worked in the fishing sector and I have always been interested in fish farming and wanted to expand my knowledge of the industry.
What excites you most about the sector?
How the sector keeps on advancing and changing all the time, so it is always different.
Why do you enjoy what you do?
I find the whole process interesting and it is amazing to see the progress of the fish.
What advice would you give to other young people considering a career in the salmon farming sector?
Get in and seize all the opportunities that the industry has to offer.
How does technology/digital transformation improve your work?
Makes the work run smoother and improves the welfare of the fish.
Was salmon farming an opportunity for you to return to, or stay in your local community?
It was an opportunity to return to the community because I have worked away for the past year.
How does your company and community work together?
The company runs, beach cleans and organises other events. We employ local people if we can. When we use contractors again we try to source and use local people / businesses.
