Innovation welcomed for seawater transfer

The industry continues to develop innovation andbest practice in Scottish salmon farming, working alongside research institutes and technical expertson efficient and rapid diagnostic techniques for their fish.

The 12-month Rapid Response project is a collaboration between Europharma Scotland Ltd, PrimerDesign Ltd, the Institute of Aquaculture at the University of Stirling and Scottish Aquaculture Innovation Centre (SAIC), with an investment of nearly £80,000 to help pinpoint the ideal time for transfer of smolts to sea.

Iain Berrill, SSPO research and data manager, said “Smoltification is a key point in salmon production and we welcome any innovation which offers a better understanding of the process, to optimise fish health and welfare during this stage and contribute to industry development.”
