At the LANTRA Awards celebration in Dunblane last night, Scottish Salmon Producers’ Organisation were sponsors of the Aquaculture Learner of the Year category, which was won by Jack Fraser of Marine Harvest Scotland, with John Blance of Grieg Seafood Scotland taking the Runner Up award. Jack topped a great night for the salmon farming industry by also taking the overall Modern Apprentice of the Year Award.
David Sandison, who represented SSPO at the event, was delighted with Jack’s success and his overall champion status and commented:
‘This event marks out the outstanding talent and dedication of the workforce in the aquaculture industry and it is a credit that we have such high calibre learners working within our member companies. This demonstrates the future is bright, and there are great opportunities for people wishing to progress in our industry’.
David was also very pleased to hear from representatives from Inverness College UHI and NAFC Marine Centre UHI, who support the delivery of the apprenticeship programme to our member companies and who are crucial to continuous development of the vocational curriculum. In addition, useful discussion took place with Crichton Lang, Depute Principal of UHI, on the central role they could play to support industry education needs throughout the Highlands & Islands.
