Local companies have been invited to discuss business opportunities that will arise from the construction of the new Marine Harvest feed plant on Skye.
The salmon producer plans to speak to businesses to find out if they can provide supplies and services for the multi-million project in Altanavaig, Kyleakin.
Marine Harvest and some of its key contractors will host the special ‘meet the supplier’ event on Wednesday evening (April 26) at Kyleakin Community Hall to discuss anticipated needs.
Scott Landsburgh, chief executive of Scottish Salmon Producers’ Organisation said:
“Scottish aquaculture stimulates over 8,000 jobs across the supply chain and wider spinoff economic activity and this is another example of how salmon farming is supporting the rural economy. Our supply chain creates a demand for feed, research, engineering, and downstream logistics and processing opportunities, providing employment and revenue for a diverse range of sectors throughout Scotland”.
In addition to the boost to local business, the company anticipates the feed plant will create at least 55 full-time jobs when it opens next year.
