With planning permission now granted by Highland Council, Marine Harvest will soon start recruiting for its new feed plant at Kyleakin, bringing 55 new jobs to the area.
The £80M plant is expected to be operational in 2018 and such high levels of investment illustrate the Scottish salmon farming industry’s confidence in its future.
Ben Hadfield Chief Operating Officer Feed and Managing Director of Marine Harvest Scotland said:
“I’m delighted with the positive decision from the local authority and even more heartened by the overwhelming support we have had from the local community. We will do our utmost now to ensure that this large construction project is managed in a sensitive way.”
The Company’s new recirculation unit at Lochailort, also scheduled for completion in 2018, will bring additional new jobs to Highland region.
Scott Landsburgh, SSPO chief executive said:
“This is welcome evidence of salmon farming’s importance to the Scottish economy and particularly the support it provides for our rural communities, securing worthwhile careers across the supply chain for the local population “.
