Scottish salmon producers have secured nominations in four of the eight categories for the Aquaculture Awards 2019. The winners will be announced at a ceremony to be held at Edinburgh’s Dynamic Earth on the May 29th.
They are up against global competition, with other nominees coming from as far afield as Nigeria, Panama, Ghana, Norway and the United States. A panel of six judges will oversee seven of the categories while the winner of the People’s Choice category will be decided by an open vote. One of those nominated in that category is Richard Derbyshire, Scottish Sea Farms regional production manager for its Orkney operation.
Other Scottish contenders for awards include: Mowi Scotland’s Clara McGhee and Kendal Hunter who go head-to-head in the Most Promising New Entrant category; Scottish Sea Farms for their work on Diversity; and a collaboration between Mowi, Scottish Sea Farms, BioMar, the University of Stirling and SAIC which has secured a nomination in the Applied Research Breakthrough category for their work with captive ballan wrasse.
