Scottish salmon has come out top in a taste test ahead of one of the seafood industry’s leading trade events. Held in Boston from the 17th to the 19th of March the Seafood Expo North America 2019 event will host 1,300 exhibitors, 265 of which will feature salmon.
Writing for the Boston Globe, the newspaper’s award-winning former food editor, Sheryl Julian, cooked and tasted a number of fresh salmon products widely available to American consumers. They included farmed Atlantic salmon from Scotland, Norway, Canada and the Faroe Islands; farmed King salmon from British Columbia; and wild Alaskan Sockeye products.
Scottish producer Wester Ross Fisheries shared top honours with the Faroes’ HiddenFjord. Julian said of the Wester Ross product “The Scottish salmon we tasted is everything salmon should be; perfect moist texture, delicious flavour that tastes of the sea, almost buttery.”
The Scottish Salmon Company and Wester Ross Salmon are among seven Scottish exhibitors who’ll be attending the Boston event, North America’s largest seafood industry exposition. The USA is Scottish salmon’s second biggest export market and in 2018 was worth £139m.
